Job Description:

Haymarket seeks a Part Time Head of Communications to play a pivotal role within our global media group, based at the Company’s HQ in Twickenham. Reporting to the HR Director, the role is supported by a social media apprentice.

Haymarket is a successful international specialist media company. We have over 70 market-leading brands in the consumer and B2B markets across the UK, US, Asia, India and Germany, connecting people and communities across digital, print, festivals, awards, conferences, and exhibitions.

You will have responsibility for developing the internal and external profile of Haymarket and its brands. You’ll ‘own’ Haymarket’s external website and the group’s intranet, providing communications and PR guidance to the Company’s 2000 staff globally. You’ll be collaborating with talented teams behind market-leading brands including PRWeek, The Clothes Show, FourFourTwo, Campaign, VW, People Management, What Hi-Fi? and WhatCar?

You’ll also liaise with our local community, including our partners in the future Richmond Education and Enterprise Campus. You will work with our charity partners to ensure all parties are getting the most out of the relationships. You’ll also work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, at a brand, divisional and company level.

Key tasks and responsibilities: 

Digital Media:

  • Provide excellent daily multimedia coverage of Haymarket’s activities for the corporate website (www.haymarket.com) that drives reach and engagement. Write, edit and post stories to Haymarket websites and intranet, maintaining an internal network of “Comms Champions” to ensure a regular feed of news
  • Ownership of the intranet; ensuring content is relevant, current and to a high editorial standard to drive engagement
  • Manage the sites from a QA perspective. Ensure both sites are running and performing well; working with the development team to shape the future of both sites, using customer feedback and analytics
  • Manage the daily output of Haymarket’s social media platforms, responsible for developing an effective content plan and strategy

External Haymarket PR:

  • Respond to all incoming corporate communications enquiries in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Play a key role in the Richmond Education & Enterprise Campus communications
  • Manage the Skills Academy communications including the creation of videos, blogging the progress of our apprentices and promotion of award entries
  • Support the Chief Executive and senior management colleagues on company updates externally
  • Represent Haymarket at key events
  • Manage our employer brand, ensuring that the Company’s brand reputation, whether that be on Glassdoor or any other external site, is well-represented
  • Manage Haymarket charity partner and CSR activities

Internal PR:

  • Manage Haymarket’s internal communication forums
  • Work with the Chief Executive and senior leaders to effectively communicate important internal stories
  • Advise internal stakeholders in advance of key announcements
  • Manage communications for Haymarket Awards, Christmas Party and ‘Create’, town halls etc
  • Support the Human Resources Director and other key stakeholders as needed, in their internal communications campaigns
  • Plan for and manage the communication of any crisis announcements

Brand PR:

  • PR support to brand teams around key announcements
  • Drive external awards entries and reviewing, editing and subbing those entries
  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of the major activities and themes around the business
  • Use that knowledge to create stories and themes that showcase Haymarket’s brands well, in association with editorial, commercial and publishing teams around the world

You will be:

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a relevant field or be professionally recognised by your industry
  • A strong communicator in all media, especially digital/social
  • Able to demonstrate your editorial flair and a natural instinct for balancing the needs of a diverse, thriving media business, derived through years of experience in the field of corporate communications
  • Experienced in both internal and external communication briefs and have the confidence to deliver the right messages
  • Happy dealing with multiple stakeholders across the business
  • Relentless in finding better ways of communicating, and eager to grow the right audience
  • Comfortable dealing with an incredibly broad range of personalities and skill sets, and enjoy being at the centre of a business with over 2000 employees worldwide
  • Flexible and adaptable with a can-do attitude

A strong journalistic grounding is an advantage, as are proven social media and web production skills.
